Art Trail opens in DamascusThere’s a New Trail in Town! The Damascus Art Trail is a self-guided tour of public art and points of interest throughout downtown. Many of the stops on the Art Trail are inspired by the natural beauty found on the trails that pass through here, with themes centered around the Appalachian Trail, Virginia Creeper Trail, Mount Rogers area, Whitetop Laurel, and more. The art trail is well suited for walking or biking and most of the route is wheelchair accessible.Several of the stops on the Art Trail feature murals, such as On the Fly and Ode to the Creeper by Chris Dalton at Brinkwaters, Whitetop Mountain by Brant Bazner at Appalachian Heritage Distillery and Brewery, and Painting the A.T. with Love by Laura Marie Blankenship at It’s A God Thing Thrift Store. A few of the stops are carved from stumps, including the Stewardship Stump sculpted by chainsaw in its original place at Laurel Creek Park, plus Reggie the Black Bear at The Dancing Bear Inn and the Sundog Troll on the porch of Adventure Damascus and Sundog Outfitter. Some are perhaps unique to Appalachian Trail culture, often fondly referred to as “hikertrash,” such as The Trees of 471 Soles at the Broken Fiddle Hostel, where trail-worn and -torn shoes have been strewn throughout the trees by hikers passing through town.No matter the medium, each site tells a story. The Damascus A.T. Arch at the south end of the Town Park was an Eagle Scout project by Bryan Neal Blevins in 1990, just a few short years after the inception of the Appalachian Trail Days Festival in 1987. This wooden arch has welcomed thousands of hikers to Damascus and has served as an important landmark on the Appalachian Trail for many years.Along the sidewalks of Laurel Avenue are the Appalachian Trail Community Pathway and The Friendship Path, both of which feature a series of commemorative bricks that line the Appalachian Trail through town. Each brick is dedicated to a person or group with ties to Damascus and its trails. The original handpainted bricks of The Friendship Path were created by Nancy Lamb beginning in 1994. The newer etched bricks were then added in 2016 in partnership with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and AmeriCorps VISTA.Perhaps the most famous mural in town is the Trail Town USA mural on the corner of Laurel Avenue and Reynolds Street, yet the only thing known about it is that “It was painted by a hiker passing through.”Laurel Creek Park holds a collection of several Art Trail pieces, with the Trail Town Compass, Rooted in Appalachia murals, and the Stewardship Stump. The newest addition to town, the Laurel Creek LOVEwork mural, is located on the wall of the Damascus Town Pool along the Virginia Creeper Trail. Its inspiration is two-fold, inspired both by the splashing of the pool and the splashes of Laurel Creek below. The mural was painted by Monica Aguilar of Chasing Trails Art in the summer of 2024 as a part of the Virginia is for Lovers LOVEworks program acr

Autumn Landscape by Vincent van Gogh c. 1885 Fitzwilliam Museum (University of Cambridge), Cambridge, UKVincent van Gogh's "Autumn Landscape" (1885) "Autumn Landscape" was painted in a pivotal year of van Gogh’s career. Earlier in 1885, he painted his first major work, "The Potato Eaters." "Autumn Landscape" was completed a few months later in October. The painting is largely a contrast between two complementary colors: blue and orange. This choice of colors indicates van Gogh’s growing interest in color theory. The woods in the painting appear desolate, with only a few birds, possibly crows, adding life to the scene. These birds might foreshadow van Gogh’s later depiction of crows in "Wheatfield with Crows" from 1890.Relation to Color Theory Van Gogh's use of blue and orange in "Autumn Landscape" is a direct application of color theory principles. These two colors are complementary, meaning they are opposite each other on the color wheel. When used together, complementary colors create a vibrant contrast, making each color appear brighter and more intense. The juxtaposition of blue and orange in the painting not only enhances the visual appeal but also evokes specific emotions and atmospheres. The desolate woods contrasted with the vibrant colors might suggest a mix of melancholy and the fiery energy of autumn.Learn more about his color theory https://vist.ly/gqxn

MuralesSometimes our posts seem to be written like a guidebook or description of Estepona on a travel company website. Partly, it takes place because our purpose is to show you all the cultural advantages and living benefits that come with a move to Estepona. The only difference is that tourists will regret leaving these amazing places, but after purchasing real estate in Estepona, you can return at any time or stay here forever.Today’s post is dedicated to the colors of Estepona building exteriors. The painting present on buildings is called – Murales. It is high level art that even has special tourist routes to see and enjoy all the street paintings. You may say, “It justgraffiti on the walls, nothing special” but until the moment you see it with our own eyes in Estepona. Few will succeed in inscribing graffiti in the city architecture so harmoniously and beautifully.Look at the houses and other buildings when you arrive in Estepona again or for the first time, they are all about the city: its dreams, experiences, history and important moments.Record your life history with Swiss Technology in Estepona.
