Grey's Anatomy will see another exit on the horizon but why is Mika Yasuda star Midori Francis leaving?

Grey’s Anatomy’s Mika Yasuda will be making her departure and fans are curious to know why.

The ABC medical drama is set to lose a surgical intern in Mika Yasuda in season 21 as it has been announced Midori Francis is set to make her exit.

She has been part of the cast for the past couple of seasons as one of the five doctors accepted into the newly launched teaching programme, with Mika’s dark sense of humour landing her in trouble from the get-go.

Why is Midori Francis leaving Grey’s Anatomy as Mika Yasuda after two seasons?

Actress Midori Francis is reportedly in negotiations to return for season 21 to wrap up Mika’s story before leaving Grey’s Anatomy.

According to Deadline, the decision to go was “amicable” with Francis looking to branch out for “the next step of her career”, having signed with WME earlier this year.

So far, the only upcoming project Francis has, going by her IMDb page, is a short called My Only Friend Is A Robot Named Beans which is currently in post-production.

She is the second series regular who is to leave the show early next season, along with actor Jake Borelli who has played Levi Schmitt for seven seasons.

Most recently in Grey’s Anatomy, Mika has been helping Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) during her recovery from a life-saving surgery.

Mika is also in a relationship with Benson Kwan (Harry Shum Jr) and could be at risk of losing her beloved 1975 Chevy G10 “Leona” as her previous home broke down.

Prior to joining Grey’s Anatomy two years ago, Francis portrayed Lily in Netflix’s Dash and Lily which earned her a Daytime Emmy Award nomination.

She has also been in the first seasons of MAX’s The Sex Lives Of College Girls as Renee Rapp’s love interest Alicia.

Some of her other roles have been in The Birch, Afterlife Of The Party, Younger, Gotham and Robot Chicken.
