Find a Printer

Students and faculty can print at many campus Libraries using their IU accounts.

More About Printing on Campus

There is one walk-up printer in the lobby of Wells Library next to the doors to the West Tower (Learning Commons).

There are threeprinters located inside the Business/SPEA Library, and two printers directly outside.There are also twostand up computer workstations that may be used to access a document and thenprint. All these are walk up printers and do not require a reservation.

There is one printer inside the main library area. It can be used as a walk-up printer.

Ways to Print at Campus Libraries

Mobile

  • Your document should be saved to the cloud storage of your choice (Google Drive suggested). The mobile app for your preferred cloud storage should be installed on your mobile device in order to access your file.
  • Navigate to My Print Center and sign in with your IU credentials.
  • Select Upload and then Browse. Upon selecting browse, you will be prompted with a list of file locations. Select the cloud service you have saved your document to and browse for your file. Once you have selected your file, it will upload into My Print Center. To print in color, select Color in the Print Options section.
  • After uploading your document to My Print Center, you may swipe your IU student ID card to the nearest printer and select and print the document from the machine. Alternatively, at the bottom, you can search for the alphanumeric ID for your nearest printer and select print. This will send your job to the printer and it will automatically start printing.

Laptop

  • Navigate to My Print Center in your browser (Google Chrome suggested). Sign in using your IU credentials.
  • In the upper left quadrant of the webpage, select Upload. Browse for and select the file you would like to print. Allow the file to upload to My Print Center. To print in color, select Color in the Print Options section.
  • After uploading your document to My Print Center, you may swipe your IU student ID card to the nearest printer and select and print the document from the machine. Alternatively, at the bottom, you can search for the alphanumeric ID for your nearest printer and select print. This will send your job to the printer and it will automatically start printing.

  • Download the BYOD Package Installer for Windows or BYOD Package Installer for Mac. Open the installer and follow the instructions in the window.
  • While on the IU network, open your document and select print. Select IU-Print-BW to print in black and white or IU-Print-Color for color.
  • Once you click print, you will be prompted to enter your IU username.
  • After you enter your username, swipe your IU student ID card at one of the printers. At the machine, you must select the documents you want to print and select print.

  • Sign in to a desktop computer with your IU credentials.
  • Once you have a document ready to print, select print in your chosen document editor. This will prompt you with the closest pre-installed printer. Select print and your job will automatically print to that machine.

Computers for Patron Use

Computers in the IU Bloomington Libraries are provided to support the academic and research work of students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the Libraries. Assistance with hardware, software, IU accounts, and more is available via the UITS service desk located on the fourth floor of the West Tower.

IU students, faculty, staff and affiliates can find more information about connecting to IU Secure, the University wireless network, via the Knowledge Base article, About IU Secure wireless.

Visitors may request a free Library Guest Account at the circulation desk in any library on the Bloomington campus. Some libraries have Library Express workstations that provide access to the library catalog and selected information resources without a login. Check with staff for access.

Scanning & More

Several units in the Herman B Wells Library (Scholars' Commons Digitization Lab, and Help Desks in East Tower 2nd Floor and West Tower 4th Floor) and all branch libraries have flatbed scanners that are available to all patrons. Scanning standard 8 1/2" x 11" pages is free for IU students, faculty, staff.

Scanned documents can be loaded onto a thumb/flash drive or sent to an e-mail, Canvas or Box account.

Printing of scanned results uses standard IU printing procedures and allocations.

Government Information, Maps and Microform Services (East Tower, 2nd floor) has microform machines that can scan images from microfilm, microfiche, and microopaques. These scans can be printed, saved to a flash drive, and/or emailed in PDF, TIFF, JPEG, PNG and BMP formats.

Some campus libraries have freestanding photocopiers or scanner/printers. All require a valid current Crimson Card for use.

Visitors may obtain a Library Guest Account and scan materials rather than photocopying them. Saving scanned images to a flash drive, depositing them in an online storage service such as Box, or sending them via email can be done at no charge. To print copies, visitors must purchase a print card. For more information, see Library Guest Account.
